Cai realizes his dream…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kai lives at the Ten Dries<\/a> care center. He has one big dream: to participate in a real triathlon race and run across that finish line! Ka\u00ef has been an active member of our Triple Challenge Club since last year. Club member Wannes joins the challenge and accompanies him. Together they trained intensively for months to participate in the Half Triathlon in Lievegem. And he did it, with fingers in his pockets (or at least as good as \ud83e\udd13) <\/p>\n

\nKa\u00ef’s dream comes true.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For months, Ka\u00ef and Wannes prepared for the Bro.Go triathlon race. Like true triathletes, they followed an intense training schedule and left nothing to chance. How did they manage it? <\/p>\n

Kai’s challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n

Swimming <\/strong>\ud83c\udfca<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ka\u00ef can swim a little but not enough to complete 1.9 km. With the help of a bellyak (a kayak you have to lie on) he manages. Wannes dives into the water and Kai paddles along. The orange buoy is his anchor point. A guide follows them closely from a kayak. <\/p>\n

Tandem bikes <\/strong>\ud83d\udeb4<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Belgian paralympic medal team Griet and Anneleen<\/a> put their tandem at the disposal of our hero! Wannes sits at the wheel and Ka\u00ef follows every move Wannes makes. This is not so simple for Ka\u00ef and we keep our fingers crossed that he can finish the 90 km\ud83e\udd1e. They train hard and systematically build up the volume towards the race. After a few solid training rides, they reach an average of 30 km\/h and a top speed of 44.5 km\/h! <\/p>\n

Running <\/strong>\ud83c\udfc3\ud83c\udffb\u200d\u2642\ufe0f<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the hardest part for Cai. Running does not work very well for Cai and he gets pain in his knees very quickly. Running a half marathon will not work out. But they found a solution… Ka\u00ef jumps into the running wheelchair that Wannes pushes and he runs every end of a lap for 500 meters.
