“Running out the 5 miles, with a running baby carriage, and Cai by my side who could rest in the baby carriage if needed, considering 5 miles is too high for him (right now 😉 ). I wanted to do this, because it was a challenge for me personally to train for that distance, and especially together with Cai, because as Cai’s companion over the years I have swum many waters with him, and it is nice for our bond to have a shared success experience.”
“I had quite a bit of stress before the run as well, which was kind of funny because usually I’m the one who supports Cai during stressful moments. Now we were able to do some stressing together, and that felt like a form of two-way traffic. It was a refreshing experience to go through that stress together.”
“What stayed with me most of all was the atmosphere during the event. Everyone was there with the same goal, whether they had a disability or not. It was all about having fun, interacting with each other and enjoying the day.
Another special moment was waiting for the start. At first we noticed that other runners were looking a little strange at Cai and the baby carriage, but soon that changed. People started asking questions and we got into conversation. It was clear that in that moment we were connecting worlds that normally don’t interact much. That sense of inclusion lingered for days.”
